Philosophy

Shalom School is a community day school, which

1) embraces the concept of the uniqueness and individuality of each child, and

2) develops understanding and respect for Jewish tradition and for the divergent modes of Jewish belief and practice.

The function of Shalom School is to provide our students with an educational foundation that meets their individual needs physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually. Our goal is to develop in our children a positive emotional response to being Jewish as part of their overall personal development.

We share an uncompromising insistence on the excellence of both the General and Judaic studies programs. By designing our curriculum, our daily schedules, and the total school atmosphere so that Judaic and secular studies are interrelated, we create an aura of warmth and love, not only for learning in general, but also equally for Judaic learning. Such an environment best serves the purpose of our ultimate goal - the most complete emotional and scholastic development of each individual student.

At Shalom School, education promotes a love of learning, maintains a healthy balance of quality academic achievement and physical education, and stimulates creativity in the arts as well as the sciences. An experiential child-oriented program implemented in small and large group instruction enables students to develop decision-making skills and the child’s accountability for learning. We expect the teacher to create a classroom climate that encourages understanding and respect for the gifts of each child as a maturing individual. Positive peer interaction is nurtured and encouraged by a competent, caring staff that facilitates exploration, inquiry, and problem solving on a daily basis.
