Visual and Performing Arts
Art, music, dramatic play, and dance are incorporated into the classrooms daily. Teachers provide open-ended activities that emphasize individuality and process to help students gain a more positive self-concept and build self-esteem. The curriculum emphasizes collaboration, problem solving, and creative and critical thinking. Shalom School uses the arts as a means for children to grow in their understanding of themselves and the world around them.
Students are exposed to a variety of media, elements of art, and artists. Daily projects develop and widen their skills, support self-expression, and allow students opportunities to express themselves creatively.
Each room provides children with a variety of dramatic art and play materials as well as opportunities for free dance and music. This helps to cultivate an environment in which diversity and expression thrive. In addition, all students participate in music time with a specialist and weekly Shabbat music.
