Jilian Bar-or, Head of School

Jilian Bar-or brings 20 years of experience in education and a deep level of knowledge and expertise about the independent school and Jewish day school environment to her role as Head of School at Shalom School. Dedicated to innovation and measurable success, she leads with a keen ability to understand students, families, faculty, staff, and stakeholders, and ensure best practices in all aspects of the Shalom School experience. Jilian holds a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership and Innovation from the Zelikow School of Jewish Nonprofit Management at Hebrew Union College, a California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and Certificate in College Counseling from UC Davis, and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a minor in Education from UC Berkeley. Originally from Los Angeles, Jilian has lived in Northern California since 2000 and currently resides in Davis with her husband, daughter, and many animals.  She is passionate about Shalom School being a vital component of a thriving Jewish communal ecosystem in the greater Sacramento Region. 

 

Denise Crevin, Director of Jewish Life and Learning

Denise Crevin is an innovative Jewish educator who brings years of experience and leadership to her role as the Director of Jewish Life and Learning. In her work with students of all ages and their families, she focuses on creating opportunities for authentically meaningful and engaging educational moments. Denise holds a Master of Arts in Religious Education from Hebrew Union College, a Master’s concentration in Israel Education from The iCenter, a Master of Arts in Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts from SFSU, and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from UCLA. With relationship building at the forefront of her practice, Denise embraces every chance to create Jewish learning and connection.  Originally from and still deeply connected to the East Bay community, Denise has lived in Elk Grove since 2004 with her husband and two children.

 

Maura Cromwell, Director of Curriculum and Instruction

Maura Cromwell brings over 15 years of experience in teaching as well as curriculum design and evaluation to Shalom School. She has taught in classrooms ranging from Kindergarten through 6th grade in Boston, the DC area, Sacramento, and Spain. For the past two years, Ms. Cromwell has served as Shalom School’s Coordinator of Instructional Support, where she provided students with individualized and small group instruction targeting their educational needs. In her role of Director of Curriculum and Instruction she is dedicated to ensuring best practices in the delivery of the elementary school curriculum, data-based curriculum design and assessment, and meeting the educational needs of the whole child. Maura holds a Master’s in Education with a focus on Technology, Innovation, and Education from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Math/Computer Science with a minor in Special Education from Boston College. She also holds elementary school teaching credentials in Massachusetts, Maryland, and California. Originally from DC, Maura lives in Sacramento with her husband and four children.

 

Stacy Spector, Advancement Director

Stacy Spector has been a part of the Shalom School community since 2005 when she first enrolled her eldest daughter in preschool. In 2012, she began officially working as the NAEYC Coordinator and was instrumental in obtaining the prestigious NAEYC accreditation for the early childhood education program.  She taught preschool and Pre-k and was the ECE Hebrew/Judaic Coordinator for many years. In 2018, Stacy transitioned out of the classroom and became the Admissions Coordinator which led to her now embracing the role of Advancement Director, leading the charge on everything related to admissions, marketing, and development. Stacy holds a Master of Arts in Education and California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from Pepperdine University and Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Psychology and Religious Studies from UC Santa Barbara. Stacy was raised in Las Vegas and Los Angeles. She and her husband have lived in Sacramento for over 20 years and have three daughters, all of whom graduated from Shalom School.

 

Stacey Worthen, Preschool Director

Stacey Worthen has worked for over 14 years at Shalom School as a valued early childhood educator and leader in our preschool and Pre-k programs. She has held the roles of teacher, ECE Coordinator, Assistant ECE Director, and Preschool Director throughout the course of her career at Shalom School. She is a warm and welcoming educational leader who is intent on supporting the well-being of all students and staff members.  Stacey holds a Bachelor of Arts in Child Development from CSU Sacramento as well as an Associate of Arts in Early Childhood Education from Sierra College. When she is not dedicating her time to Shalom School, she spends her time with family, which includes her husband and her two grown children. Stacey was born and raised in Sacramento and is an avid runner who coaches youth cross country and track teams.
